Adapting an Existing Program for Cultural Competence

For the final assignment in our Topics in Diversity for Health and Healing course, we were asked to choose an existing health education program and illustrate how we would adapt it to be more culturally competent for a new target population.

The existing program I chose was MEND 7-13, which helps K-12 students and their families learn how to make healthy lifestyle changes to reduce childhood obesity. In the assignment below, I outline how I would adapt it for overweight or obese Native American children ages seven to 13 years old who live on a reservation.
